Founders’ Day Update
While the Mound Bayou Museum will not be hosting its own Founders’ Day celebration this year, we look forward to being involved in the festivities taking place in Mound Bayou. We will keep visitors and community members updated as confirmed information becomes available.
Why Founders’ Day Matters
Founded in 1887 by formerly enslaved men Benjamin T. Green and Isaiah T. Montgomery, Mound Bayou became a Black town in the Mississippi Delta where residents developed businesses, schools, health institutions, and civic life during segregation.
Founders’ Day provides an opportunity to recognize the people who established Mound Bayou and the generations who continued building, protecting, and caring for the community.
Honoring Benjamin T. Green and Isaiah T. Montgomery.
Recognizing the generations who built and cared for Mound Bayou.
Gathering around the town’s history through remembrance and fellowship.
